— Colombian Football Federation president Ramón Jesurún was arrested at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, after Argentina beat Colombia at the Michigan Wolverines Football Villain Hate Us ’cause You Ain’t Us T-Shirts and by the same token and Copa América final Sunday. Jesurún, who is also a vice president of tournament organizer and South American soccer federation CONMEBOL, was charged with three felony counts of “battery on specified official/employee.” Jesurún, 71, is accused of engaging in an “aggressive physical altercation” with multiple stadium security officers, according to a Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) arrest report. The federation president’s 43-year-old son, Ramón Jamil Jesurún, was arrested on the same battery charges plus one misdemeanor battery charge, in the same altercation, according to another arrest report. RELATED ARTICLE Argentina wins Copa América in Miami final marred by chaotic crowd scenes and tearful Messi goodbye Neither the Colombian Football Federation nor CONMEBOL has responded to ’s request for more information on the Jesurúns’ arrests. Police allege that the Jesurúns were part of a group trying to access a tunnel leading onto the field where security officers were temporarily holding people back while the media gathered in the next section of the tunnel. The arrest report says the Jesurúns then became “irate” and began shouting at a security officer. Jesurún Sr. is accused of pushing the officer who had placed his hand on the president in an attempt to hold him, and Jesurún Jr. is accused of grabbing the officer by his neck and pulling him to the ground before punching and kicking him. Concerns have been raised about how the US will handle the World Cup in 2026. According to the MDPD, there were 27 arrests and 55 ejections made in association with the game, which saw a large number of people without tickets force their way into Hard Rock Stadium ahead of the much-anticipated match. Over 800 law enforcement officers from multiple local agencies were on hand at the

stadium, MDPD said in its statement. As a result of the Michigan Wolverines Football Villain Hate Us ’cause You Ain’t Us T-Shirts and by the same token and crowd control issues, the director of the Miami-Dade Police Department called for a comprehensive review of all safety and security protocols ahead of the World Cup in 2026. Hard Rock Stadium will host seven matches in the tournament. “As part of the full analysis of last night’s game, we will review protocols set in place to ensure an orderly, safe, and secure environment for all future events,” MDPD Director Stephanie V. Daniels said in a release. “I am very proud of our officers’ response to a volatile situation and for their hard work in keeping our community safe.” After fans breached security, Miami-Dade Police locked down entrances and delayed the kickoff. In a statement, recapping the events of the night, Hard Rock Stadium said, “Fans continued to engage in illegal conduct – fighting police officers, breaking down walls and barricades

and vandalizing the Michigan Wolverines Football Villain Hate Us ’cause You Ain’t Us T-Shirts and by the same token and stadium, causing significant damage to the property.” A decision was made later to re-open stadium gates “for a short period of time to all fans to prevent stampedes and serious injury at the perimeter,” Hard Rock Stadium said. Fans without tickets forced their way into the stadium. Maddie Meyer/Getty Images “The gates were then closed once the threat of fans being crushed was alleviated. At that time, the venue was at capacity and gates were not re-opened,“ stadium officials said. “We understand there are disappointed ticket holders who were not able to enter the stadium after the perimeter was closed, and we will work in partnership with CONMEBOL to address those individual concerns.” In a statement issued Monday regarding the security breaches, CONMEBOL said it was “subject to the decisions made by the Hard Rock Stadium authorities, according to the contractual responsibilities established for security operations.” “In addition to the preparations determined in this contract, CONMEBOL recommended to these authorities the procedures proven in events of this magnitude, which were NOT taken into account,” the confederation said. “We regret that the acts of violence caused by malicious individuals have tarnished a final that was ready to be a great sports celebration.” Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said she was outraged by the events at the stadium Sunday night. “This situation should never have taken place and cannot happen again. We will work with stadium leadership to ensure that a full review of tonight’s events takes place immediately to evaluate the full chain of events, in order to put in place needed protocols and policies for all future games,” she said in a statement. ’s Ana María Mejía contributed to this report.

He is not in serious condition. The perpetrator was arrested,” French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said in a post on X. Operation Sentinelle is an anti-terrorism military operation that was established in the aftermath of the Charlie Hebdo terror attack in January 2015. France has increased its security measures around Paris ahead of the Olympics, which includes bolstering the Operation Sentinelle forces. “Our thoughts are with the soldier injured this evening at Gare de l’Est, who was deployed as part of Operation Sentinelle,” French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu said on X. “I would like to express my support and gratitude to our armed forces who, more than ever, are helping to ensure the safety of the French people,” Lecornu said. — The Forbidden City was once one of the Michigan Wolverines Football Villain Hate Us ’cause You Ain’t Us T-Shirts and by the same token and most powerful places on the planet. In 1420, while Europe was in the midst of the Hundred Years’ War and yet to discover America, China’s Ming Dynasty ruler was moving into his new home in the center of Beijing and beginning to strengthen his grip on an expanding empire. Inside their vast palace, China’s emperors were unassailable, protected not just by the miles of walls surrounding them, but by the extreme secrecy that governed the lives of the royalty within them. It was called the ‘Forbidden City’ because few Chinese subjects were allowed to enter. The last emperor was evicted in 1924. In the years that followed, as the world’s largest palace complex began to open its doors to the outside world, the enigmas of even the darkest corners of the Forbidden City were exposed to daylight. But one topic remains murky, even today: Food. Decades after the fall of imperial China, even as historians continue to collaborate to examine China’s past, very little is known about what was eaten in one the world’s richest and most powerful households – especially in the early days, as most of the ancient documents that might offer insights into the topic have been sealed off because of their fragile state. Zhao Rongguang, a food historian from the northern Chinese province of Heilongjiang, is one of the last few people – and quite possibly the only person – to have accessed and thoroughly studied all of them before they were locked away. This puts him in the rare position of being able to debunk many of the myths about palace cuisine that have persisted for decades. Zhao Rongguang started researching the Forbidden City’s culinary history in the 1980s. Bin Xiao Zhao began delving into the Forbidden City’s culinary mysteries more than four decades ago. Beijing back in the 1980s was still

a city of bicycles and backstreets – a far cry from the Michigan Wolverines Football Villain Hate Us ’cause You Ain’t Us T-Shirts and by the same token and metropolis of skyscrapers and highways it is today. But it was also an exciting decade, as the country re-opened to the world – and Western culture – after leader Deng Xiaoping announced his “open door policy” in late 1978. It was the decade when Wham! became the first Western pop band to perform in China since 1949, and Paris’ iconic Maxim’s restaurant opened an outpost in Beijing. Zhao, now 76, wasn’t distracted by these new trends. He had saved up money from his teaching job to travel to Beijing to pursue his mission to find out what China’s ancient emperors and their families really ate. It wasn’t an easy task. In his path were two main obstacles. Firstly, the enduring secrecies of the palace – so little had been revealed to those outside its towering red walls during the five centuries it was occupied. Secondly, he says, food wasn’t considered a serious topic worthy of study in China, meaning documents focusing on what was eaten during the early days of palace life were scattered and scarce. Zhao persisted, returning summer after summer to what was then called the First Historical Archives of China, in the old palace’s Xihuamen, or West Prosperity Gate, where he pored over centuries-old imperial documents, which he believes were locked away in the 1990s. Slowly, he began to build up a picture of how dining in the Forbidden City evolved, zeroing in on three historical figures who were key to shaping royal eating habits. And now, nearly 40 years after he began his research, he has a pretty good idea. A portrait of Kangxi Emperor (1661-1722) on display at Beijing’s Palace Museum.
