Among the notable competitors was the legendary Dutchman, Berend Van De Berg. Known as “The Farting Dutchman,” Van De Berg had won the volume category at the previous IFF World Farting Championships. However, at the 1994 event, he was dethroned by the Swiss challenger, Beat Wampfler. Wampfler unleashed a thunderous fart that measured an astonishing 10.5 liters, shattering the previous record by a wide margin.
In the duration category, the winner was an unassuming Englishman named David Irving. Irving produced a fart that lasted an incredible 57 seconds, leaving the audience both amazed and slightly nauseous. And in the composition category, the judges awarded the prize to the American contestant, Tom Atoms. Atoms’ fart was described as having a “bouquet of ripe cheese and burnt toast,” earning him the title of “Farting Maestro.”
